Guest Blog by Kate Turner, Solihull Music School
Solihull Music School is proud to announce an historic and heart-warming move to new premises at The Laurels Studios, Knowle High Street, this September 2025. Principal Kate Turner describes the relocation as both a professional milestone and a deeply personal moment: “It really does feel like I’m bringing the music home.”
After over 20 years as a leading private music school using the world-renowned Yamaha Music Method, the school is expanding to meet growing demand for fun, structured and creative music education for all ages.
“We’ve been looking for a distinctive space with character and warmth – somewhere to reflect the creativity at the heart of our school. The Laurels is exactly that – a stunning new home in a vibrant, welcoming village, with cafes, shops and a beautiful park right on the doorstep.”
The move to Knowle will also improve access for families, provide more room for growing student numbers, and preserve the supportive group-learning environment that has become the school’s trademark.
A Story That Spans Generations
This move also reconnects Kate Turner’s family legacy with the village of Knowle. Kate will become the fifth generation of her family to live and work on Knowle High Street. Her great-great-grandfather, Sergeant John Court, became the village policeman in 1893 and was a much-loved figure in the community. The family tree traces five generations of contribution to the village, from grocers to musicians — making this return especially significant.
“I like to think my great-great-grandfather would be proud to see his great-great-granddaughter teaching music and running a school in the very same village.”
