Knowle's Open Spaces
One of Knowle’s greatest treasures isn’t tucked away behind a shopfront or hidden in a history book — it’s out in the open. Our village is surrounded by beautiful green spaces that offer room to roam, space to breathe, and the simple joy of time outdoors.
Open Spaces to Enjoy
Breathing Space: Exploring the Open Green Heart of Knowle
One of Knowle’s greatest treasures isn’t tucked away behind a shopfront or hidden in a history book - it’s out in the open. Our village is surrounded by beautiful green spaces that offer room to roam, space to breathe, and the simple joy of time outdoors.
Knowle Park: A Space for Everyone
At the heart of the village lies Knowle Park, a much-loved destination for families, walkers, and anyone looking to enjoy a bit of fresh air. With its large children’s play area, peaceful and wide open grass areas the park is a place where generations come together.
There’s a basketball court for active teens, a picturesque pond perfect for a quiet moment, and winding paths through mature trees and wildlife-friendly spaces. Whether you’re heading out for a run, a family picnic, or just a slow wander, Knowle Park has something for every pace of life.
Follow the Water: The Grand Union Canal & Knowle Locks
Just a short stroll from the village centre, the Grand Union Canal winds gently past Knowle, offering one of the most scenic walking routes in the area. The towpath is a local favourite - ideal for everything from dog walks to cycling adventures. Don’t miss the Knowle Locks, a stunning flight of five locks where you can watch colourful narrowboats navigate the changing levels. It’s a peaceful, charming place that captures the slower rhythm of life beside the water.
Paths, Byways & Hidden Walks
Knowle is criss-crossed with footpaths, bridleways and country lanes, offering endless opportunities to explore the surrounding countryside on foot or bike. Whether you’re discovering a new route or sticking to an old favourite, there’s always something different to see - wildflowers, woodland, and views that change with the seasons.
One particularly special spot is the Children’s Field - gifted to the village many years ago and now a cherished green space where little ones can run free and residents of all ages can enjoy the benefits of open land set aside for the community.
Wandering the River Blythe
Less well-known, but just as beautiful, is the River Blythe - a gentle, meandering river that flows close to Knowle. You’ll find it tucked away at the ford on Elvers Green Lane, or winding beside some of the quieter public footpaths around the village. It’s a haven for wildlife and a tranquil backdrop for a rural walk, especially when the sunlight dances on the water and the hedgerows hum with birdsong. We've got two circular walks to Barston Ford and back again.
Space to Breathe, Room to Connect
In a world that’s constantly busy, Knowle’s open spaces offer something truly valuable: time to slow down, reconnect with nature, and spend meaningful moments with others (or just yourself). Whether it’s a quick loop around the park, a sunny day by the canal, or a quiet corner of a green field, the outdoors is always just steps away.
Knowle isn’t just about buildings and businesses, it’s about balance. And our green spaces are a big part of what makes this village feel like home.
